How to replace a broken floor tile

December 20, 2022

So, you have a broken floor tile. Whether it was due to an accident or simply age, it needs to be replaced. While this may seem like a daunting task, fear not! With these easy steps, you'll have that tile replaced in no time.

Step 1:

Remove the broken tile. Use a chisel and hammer to remove the broken tile and any pieces that may be left behind. Be sure to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris.

Step 2:

Clean the area around the damaged tile. Vacuum or sweep up any dirt or debris around the area. This will ensure that your new tile adheres correctly and there is no chance of mold or mildew growth.

Step 3:

Measure the space for your new tile. Carefully measure the space where your new tile will go. This will determine what size tile you need to purchase.

Step 4:

Cut your new tile to fit. Place the new tile on a cutting board and use a sharp knife to cut it to size. Once you have a correctly sized replacement tile, it's time to adhere it in place!

Step 5:

Apply adhesive to the back of the replacement tile. Be sure to follow the instructions on your particular adhesive; some adhesives require you to wait a certain amount of time before proceeding to the next step.

Step 6:

Place the replacement tile in position and press down firmly. Gently but firmly press down on the replacement tile until it is level with the surrounding tiles. Use a level if necessary to check that your new tile is even with those around it.

Step 7:

Apply grout around the perimeter of the replacement tile. Once again, follow the instructions on your grout packaging; Cure times will vary depending on the brand of grout used. And that's it! Your new tile is in place and looking good as new!

Replacing a broken floor tile may seem like a daunting task, but with these easy steps, you'll have that job done in no time! Be sure to take proper safety precautions, such as wearing goggles and gloves, and follow all directions on products used (adhesives, grouts, etc.) for best results. Have fun and enjoy your newly updated floor!
